Prevention and Support is required for every DSP providing support to someone with a Behavior Treatment Plan that is receiving DDD funded services in the State of Arizona.

Prevention and Support gives the Direct Support Professional (DSP) tools on how to de-escalate interfering conduct. The DSP will gain knowledge about how to better understand what the person supported may be communicating with their behavior. The student will learn why it’s important to find out the function of a person’s behavior so a new replacement skill can be taught. Finally, if all least intrusive interventions have failed and imminent danger is present, the student will learn how to safely apply an emergency physical intervention technique.

The program equipped me with the tools and knowledge on how to handle emergency behavior situations/challenges and to use least restrictive measures before calling 911 or reporting to the supervisor.:
* RIGHT NOW-- is the Person in danger
*RIGHT NOW---Is there anyone in danger
*RIGHT NOW -- Is the property at risk.
would like to give credit to Amanda the program instructor on her teaching skills, especially the demonstrations how to restrain some physical emergency behaviors .

Heidi was amazing, I couldn't believe I had training for a whole work day but walked out saying I really enjoyed my time. She was very patient during the times the class would practice the holds and blocks and was not only knowledgeable but relatable to how we could better understand her references so it was great! The instructor was very knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. She taught the highest level of ethics and let the participants know that changes to the curriculum are coming. This was all much appreciated. The class could use a few more interactive activities to keep it from being so much lecture time all at once in the morning. She had lots of good examples, though.
