In this course the Direct Support Professional (DSP) will learn how to assist the person they support in thriving in the role of “friend”. Whether it’s a platonic or intimate relationship, the person supported along with their DSP, will learn and practice skills that teach planning, dating and even interaction with financial institutions. The DSP will provide tips for the person on how to better connect with their community like using public transportation and promote more neighbor engagement. After taking this course the DSP will be competent in teaching the skills necessary for the person they support to have the skills to be successful in the valued role of ‘friend.’
